Everything was foggy and she felt a sharp throbbing pain shoot across her stomach. Damnit...this wasn't how it was supposed to go. Gently she pulled herself into a sitting position. Around her she could make out a few more people. Since no one was shooting at her and she seemed to have basic wrappings around her stomach she assumed these people had just helped her. An armored man with a creepy mask was knelt close to her, cutting the last few bandages on her. She gave him a weak smile. "Thank you, thank you very much." She saw the young jedi a little ways away watching and she gave him a weak smile as well. I've got fast (12mbps) Internet at home now. Works well, although I was shocked and more than a bit annoyed to discover that many of the sites that were blocked by the cable company also seem to be blocked by AT&T residential service. Which is doubly annoying when the AT&T WiFi offered by local restaurants (such as Mickey D's) is not blocking any domains. At least AT&T residential isn't blocking DreamHost or eBay. It's odd how quickly one gets used to new equipment, he thinks missing the now familiar weight of the bracer computer on his right arm as well as the stun blaster and stun baton that he had picked up at StarForge Station To the troopers, he says, "Ok, men. We'll follow standard Imperial inspection protocols until I give the order. Then we'll take out the crew - starting at the bridge, escape pods, and munitions locker if they've got one and move from there. Set your blasters to 'Stun' - we don't want to kill anyone we don't have to." In previous posts I've mentioned something to the effect that there's a full platoon of naval troopers. That's 38 men. I checked my notes last night and noticed that the Far Orbit only has 20 naval troops, two squads, left after the mutiny (that includes Ensign Mercer). So it's a half a platoon, not a full one. Since each shuttle accommodates 50 troops, there are plenty of empty seats and room. Background Born on Tyshapahl to a poor family, Lance enlisted the Imperial navy on his 18ᵗʰ birthday out of zeal for the Imperial cause, and a need to earn an income to help support his parents and siblings. His leadership potential was clearly seen, and he rose quickly to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His CO at the time, one captain Piett recommended Mercer for Officer Candidacy Training after Lance showed his loyalty to the Empire by discovering and reporting a double agent whom he had thought a friend. The agent escaped, however, managing to stun Lance after advising him to leave the Imperial Navy. Mercer graduated from the Imperial OCT course with high marks, but the indoctrination courses burned away much of his Imperial fervor. He became further disillusioned as he began his service as an Ensign under the inept command of Captain Kenit. He still did his best to serve, so that he could continue to support his family back on Tyshapahl. So, while he didn't report the mutinous faction aboard the ship, as he would have before OCT, he didn't join them. Back on Tyshapahl, there was a peaceful demonstration against the outrageously high food prices.The regional Moff in charge of the sector sent ships to disperse the crowds, but the demonstrators were stubborn and refused to leave the site. The commander of the imperial force thereby ordered his ships to hover above the crowd and ignite their engines, incinerating the peaceful demonstrators in a fiery blast. The entire family of Lance Mercer was among the dead. When word of this massacre reached Lance on-board the Far Orbit, it was the last straw. He vowed to get off the ship at the next opportunity and do everything he could to take down the Empire that had so carelessly murdered his family. Before he had a chance to desert, however, Vedij lead the mutiny, and Mercer gladly participated. Personality To his friends, Lance is affable, loyal and charismatic; quick to smile and laugh.
